World Oceans Day 2019

On june 8th 2019, world oceans day took place in lesvos, organized by healing Lesvos. Lydia Stergiopoulou, researcher at ICRE8 spoke on the ecosystem services, presenting three projects to local stakeholders: RECONNECT INTERREG Balkan-Mediterranean project - https://reconnect.hcmr.gr/) and AMARE INTERREG MED project (https://amare.interreg-med.eu/) dealing with marine protected areas and their related ecosystem services and EU H2020 COASTAL project (https://h2020-coastal.eu/) which seek to increase land-sea synergies and coastal-rural collaboration through an innovative participatory approach. In the morning participatory activities with students took place along the coast of Avlaki. Moreover, one of the successful pioneers from Climate-KIC Greece, Lauren Mezari, shared her experience with the audience on how to apply system innovation tools to tackle climate change and environmental issues like marine litter in the Aegean Sea.
