Prof. Phoebe Koundouri appointed national pivot for the economy platform of the BLUEMED initiative
Prof. Phoebe Koundouri appointed national pivot for the economy platform of the BLUEMED initiative. The BLUEMED initiative, developed under the Italian Presidency of the EU Council in 2014 together with Mediterranean EU Member States and Portugal and the support of the European Commission, fosters integration of knowledge and efforts to develop the blue growth in the Mediterranean and promotes joint actions of relevant research and innovation priorities. In addition it maximises the leverage effects of the research investments. BLUEMED offers a shared strategic framework for working towards a healthy, productive and resilient Mediterranean Sea that is better known and valued. It is designed to tap the full potential of the marine and maritime sectors, structuring transnational cooperation to create new ‘blue’ jobs and to promote and improve social wellbeing, sustainable prosperity and the environmental status of the region and its surroundings. Four national platforms (Economy, Policy, Technology, Knowledge) will interact with and inform all relevant Greek stakeholders about the actions planned in the framework of Blue Growth in Greece and the Mediterranean, in relation to the European Strategy for Adriatic Ionian macro-region (EUSAIR) and the BLUEMED Initiative. ICRE8 is an active stakeholder of the Economy platform.
