Stamatis Kalogirou

Professor, Harokopio University

Dr. Stamatis Kalogirou is Lecturer in Applied Spatial Analysis, Department of Geography, Harokopio University of Athens and Affiliate of the National Centre for Geocomputation in Ireland. He is a graduate of the Department of Informatics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and did an MSc in Geographic Information Systems (Leicester University) and a PhD in Geography (Newcastle Upon Tyne University). He has worked as a researcher at the London School of Economics, the National Centre for Geocomputation of Ireland, the Royal Institute of Technology - KTH (Sweden) and Ritsumeikan University (Japan). He has participated in research projects on issues related to migration and population ageing, spatial inequalities in European Regions, natural disasters management and the cultural landscapes of Greece. His main research includes applications of spatial data analysis methods in fields such as migration, ageing, health, income and education. His research aims to assist informed decisions affecting policy-making. He is a member of many academic societies and President of the Hellenic Society of Swedish Scholars.
