New collaboration of Region of Crete with Hellenic Centre of Marine Research (HCMR)
The collaboration between the Region of Crete and the Hellenic Center for Marine Research (HCMR) and its representation in Brussels through the District Office was discussed by Stavros Arnaoutakis, Regional Governor of Crete, with the President of Hellenic Center for Marine Research Spyridon Mavrakos.
Mr. Mavrakos briefed the Regional Governor on the research activities of the Hellenic Research Institutes and the implementation of major research projects in marine research in Greece and the Mediterranean and in various fields such as energy, environment, fisheries, aquaculture, genetics, biotechnology, They discussed the opportunities that have emerged for Crete through a wide range of collaborations with Greek and European institutions and with the participation of the major research organizations of the island, which excel at international level. They also discussed the possibilities of cooperation for the realization of projects of business interest and innovation for the island, within the framework of the interconnection of research with production and the local entrepreneurs.
Also, HCMR will be supported and represented in Brussels in the framework of its cooperation with the Region of Crete on issues related to the marine and coastal area of Crete, through the Regional Office for the development of communication with the European bodies, European networks, and services of the Commission, with the aim of optimizing information, developing synergies and jointly claiming European funding.
The meeting was attended by Giorgos Alexakis, Deputy Regional Chief of European and International Affairs, and Eleni Hatzigianni, Director of Environment and Spatial Planning of the Region, who is responsible for the representation and mediation of HCMR in Brussels, as she maintains her multi-annual cooperation with the center's researchers.
