ICRE8 Signs MoU with the Federal Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria
The International Centre for Research on the Environment and the Economy and the Federal Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria, have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at promoting sustainable development through clean energy provision in rural areas. Dr Ebun Akinsete, Head of Department for Stakeholder Analysis and Decision Support Systems, represented ICRE8 at a meeting with Dr. Sanusi Ohiare, Executive Director – Rural Electrification Fund, Rural Electrification Agency, and his team which took place in the REA offices in Abuja, Nigeria. Both partners are keen to explore avenues to maximise the economic, social and environmental benefits of rural electrification expansion through clean energy based off-grid electrification to rural areas that are not connected to the national grid. Working with network partners such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN-SDSN) and Climate-KIC, special focus will be given stimulating innovative approaches to rural electrification using social innovation interventions.
