Dr Panayiotis Sophronides
Researcher in the field of decision support systems
Panayiotis Sophronides is a PhD researcher in the field of decision support systems for participatory risk and crisis management. He is affiliated to both the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and the SPatialINformationlaboratory (SPINlab) at the VrijeUniversiteit (VU) Amsterdam. Furthermore, he is collaborating with the research and development department of Geodan, one of the leading geo-ICT organizations in Europe. Sophronides holds a Diploma (Dipl.-Ing.) in Rural and Surveying Engineering from NTUA, a Master of Science (MSc) and a Diploma of Imperial College (DIC) in Hydrology and Water Resources Management from Imperial College London. His major research interests include participatory risk, incident and disaster management, emergency response, water safety, decision support systems, geo-ICTs, spatial data infrastructures, multi-scale n-dimensional modelling, geo-design, spatial planning, regional development, e-services, smart cities, sustainable development, environmental systems, energy policy and renewable energy, etc. Sophronides is a member of various professional and scientific bodies in Cyprus, Greece, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
